Facts and Events
In her obituary, we see she died in a nursing home, "after a long illness." She is listed as a member of the Gospel Missionary Church. In the Wilson-Fryer family record, we find a short biography of Maggie's life. In it we are told that she didn't like to help in the home, and would use any excuse to get out doors to help her "Daddy" as she called him. She enjoyed helping to milk, and at some point, her father gave her a gold watch for "such faithful help with the cows." In her late teens she studied music and eventually gave piano lessons. She also played a "pump organ" for the Ridgedale Sunday School. After her marriage, she and Jasper lived near Johnston Station (now Johnston) for 11 years before moving to Ankeny. "As they became more prosperous, improvements were made in their home, like getting a refrigerator, furnace, and washing machine." She always hoped her children would be musical, and was "gratified" when youngest son, Fred, sang tenor in the men's glee club at Wheaton College. In the late 20's she heard the famous John Phillip Sousa Band at the Iowa State Fair and long remembered that occasion. She took 2 long trips in her life. The first was to Colorado to visit the Ambrose Rittgers Family. "She enjoyed seeing the mountains at a distance more than the actual winding around hairpin turns."' Later she accompanied Joyce [Davis, wife of son Fred] to Pedro, Ca., when Fred was being discharged from the service. She loved nature and often took walks to catch the sunrise and tried to watch the sunsets. Maggie was known for the roses in her front yard. She took much delight in her grandchildren and at the time she died, had 27 "grands" and several great grandchildren. References
