I need help in determining the regiment and company of my ancestor, John Harrison Martin of northern Shelby County, just inside the St. Clair County line. He was born 19 June 1828 in Shelby Co and died 16 Jan 1916 in Shelby Co. The only record we have of him being in the war comes from a note written by a daughter stating that he was in the war and was wounded the 1st of May. At least 3 of his brothers served in the war: Capt. Daniel M. Martin, 18th Ala, Co. I; Thomas J. Martin, 18th Ala, Co. I, wounded at Shiloh; and Jasper N. Martin, 10th Ala, Co. D. Jasper was injured in the war and came home, only to die of his wounds on 5 October 1864.
