Facts and Events
Alexander SMITH married 17apr1763 Janet WILLISON (according to the children’s birth records) or WILLIESON (according to the marriage record and burgess ticket) in Edinburgh, Midlothian (IGI). The marriage record gives the father of Janet as James. Alexander was made burgess and gild brother of the burgh (of Glasgow) as having married Janet Willieson, only surviving daughter of the deceased James Willieson, merchant, burgess and gild brother” (1805 copy of burgess ticket). The births from 1757 to 1766 of the children of John Willison and Margaret Dunbar/Dunbarr were recorded on a paper found in the possession of Benjamin Barton (1747-1817) and copied by Andrew Farquhar Gray (customs comptroller, Irvine) and David Bell of Blackhall. This suggests that John was the brother of Janet (d. 1824); the parents of John were James Willison of Dorrater and Barbara Hall who married in 1722 (confirmed by C. Beachy, rootsweb). Janet died 16apr1824 in Glasgow (family letters). References
