Alexander married 17apr1763 Janet WILLISON (according to the children’s birth records) or WILLIESON (according to the marriage record and burgess ticket) in Edinburgh, Midlothian (IGI). The marriage record gives the father of Janet as James.
Alexander Smith, baker, was, on 2oct1776, made burgess and gild brother of the burgh (of Glasgow) as having married Janet Willieson, only surviving daughter of the deceased James Willieson, merchant, burgess and gild brother” (1805 copy of burgess ticket, “The burgesses and guild brethren of Glasgow 1751-1846”, Scottish record society, 1935). Alexander was a Glasgow and Stirling merchant and a burgess of Stirling (family letters).
Alexander was known as Captain Alexander Halkel/Halket SMITH and may have died 1799 (family letters).
