1850 Census Cates, Gwinnett Co., Georgia enumerated 24 Aug 1850 William W. Kicker 21 M W School Teacher GA Jane Kicker 20 F W GA James N. Kicker 6/12 M W GA [I've seen an ancestry chart that interpreted the handwriting as Kicker, but it is indexed as Kecket. It is equally difficult to read in the following 1860 census. I will use Kicker, but more research is needed to verify the last name.) (in the hh above this family, are Jane's parents, Little Berry Jackson & Nata)

Jane Jackson 1860 Census Dist 406, Gwinnett Co., Georgia N. F. Kicker 38 M farmer 200 GA Jane Kicker 28 F GA James Kicker 11 M GA Mary Kicker 7 F GA Sarah Kicker 6 F GA Nancy Kicker 3 F GA Rebecca Kicker 1 F GA

Later Note from Grady Langley: "I have seen this info regarding daughter Jane. She married Warren Whitefield Kicker. In the Meyers Collection, she is shown as Jane and her husband Whitfield. Whitefield had his last name changed from Kicker to Bartow, which is his mother's maiden name. Also according to Meyers, Jane is buried near Norcross, Gwinnett Co, GA".

Janie: This fellow was really unhappy with his name: on the 1850 he was William W. Kicker (indexed as Kecket); in 1860 he was N. F. Kicker. I surely misinterpreted the census records. I figured Mr. Kicker had died, Jane remarried to a Bartow and he also died. Thanks for clearing this up. In the following census record, it appears that the children are being raised as Bartow. The gender and race columns are blank except for Albert. This record is on the same census sheet as her father, Little Berry Jackson. 1870 Census Pickneyville, Gwinnett Co., Georgia Bartow, Jane 27 -- -- keeping house 660 230 GA (age is obvious error; she wouldn't have had Mary at age 10.) Bartow, Mary 17 -- -- GA Bartow, Sarah 15 -- -- at school GA Bartow, Nancy 13 -- -- GA Bartow, Albert 7 M -- GA
