Research notes
- James M. Tullis appears to have served during the Civil War for the Confederacy in three (or perhaps four) different units, all as a Private, even though he was already a physician. First he served in Co. K of the 12th Georgia Infantry (Capt Blanford?s Co.) from June 15, 1861, to July 19, 1861, when he was discharged for medical disability (chronic kidney disease). He was paid $12.46 for his service! After recovering, he enlisted in Co. F of the 46th Georgia Infantry on March 4, 1862, and then on May 13, 1862, was transferred to Capt. Lawton?s Co. of Cobb?s Legion, but no record of him in Cobb?s Legion can be found. We next find him in Co. G of the 2nd Georgia Cavalry (Gen. Cheatham?s Escort) until December 1864, although he was in St. Mary?s Hospital for most of October 1863.
