    James Peery was born in 1770 at St. George's Hundred, New Castle County, Delaware. He was the son of James Peery Jr. and Jane Davis. He was baptized by the Rev. Thomas Reed at Old Drawyers Presbyterian Church, Odessa, New Castle County, Delaware. He married Harriet Marsh, daughter of Thomas Purnell Marsh and Ann Mackey, circa 1790. He became a widower upon the death of his wife Harriet Marsh before 1827. He married Elizabeth McColley, daughter of John McColley, in 1827. He was an elder at Cool Spring Presbyterian Church, Cool Spring, Sussex County, Delaware. He lived at Sussex County, Delaware, over 35 years. He died in 1830 at Broadkill Hundred, Sussex County, Delaware, at age 60 years.
