Died before May 1866 when his widow Susan filed her first pension application. The pension application specifies he fought in the K 32 Iowa Inf; E 8 Iowa Inf, which is somewhat odd for a man who lived in Missouri, but the fact that his wife’s second husband joined her later application confirms it’s the same man.

Civil War record database confusingly says “Enlisted in Company K, Iowa 32nd Infantry Regiment on 31 Dec 1863. Mustered out on 28 Jul 1865.” and “Survived War: Yes” and “Death Date: 23 Dec 1863
