His obituary read: "JAMES FRANKLIN LOWERY, son of Alex and Mary Lowery, was born September 15, 1855, and died May 25, 1921, aged 65 years, 8 months, and 10 days. He was married to Mary Criswell July 3, 1876. To this usion was born 4 children: Stella Hauger, Fredericksburg, Indiana; Effie Colglazier, Salem, Indiana; Myrtle Voyles, Fredericksburg, Indiana; and an infant son who preceded him to the great beyond. He leaves his wife Mary Lowery, three daughters, seven grandchildren, two brothers, Harmon Lowery of Oakland City, Indiana, and Press Lowery of East St. Louis, Illinois; one sister Carrie Downey of Francisco, Indiana, and a host of friends to mourn their loss. He united with the Church of Christ at Kansas May 27, 1887, and remained a member of the church until his death. He was highly respected and trusted by all who know him and will be a great loss to the family and community. The funeral was held Friday, May 27, at 2 p.m at Kansas Church, conducted by J.S. Johns, of Salemm after which the body was laid to reast in the cemetery nearby."
