Title: Book: "New Woodstock and Vicinity Past and Present" by Ellsworth and Richmond Page: page 14 Text: "James (Knight) was an expert penman, and was a bookkeeper in New Woodstock several years, afterward going to Syracuse. He was twice married. The daughters of his first marriage were Harriet, who died in early womanhood, and Gertrude, wife of Robert Bendict of Delphi. Mr. Knight's second wife and a son and daughter are living in Syracuse, another son in Rochester...".

From a letter to Harold S. Knight from Lola Celia (Knight) Gurley dated January 29th, 1944: "My father (James Knight) was a book-keeper as long as I knew him. I think while they were living in Schodack, at the time your father was born, he was in a photograph gallery. He died when I was 15 years old, and he was 65 when he died. He was always an old man to me. But such a grand old man. His hair was always white, that I could remember."

Harold S. Knight verbally to Douglas W. Knight. James Knight was one of the first photographers in upstate New York and earned at least part of his living in this profession.
