James Everitt was baptised on 7th July 1793 at Hitchin in Hertfordshire, son of Mary Everitt, formerly Cannon, and her husband George Everitt, a labourer. James's father died in 1800, when James was seven years old.

James was married at Hitchin on 17th January 1814 to a Mary Warner. They do not appear to have had any children.

James died when he was 33 years old, being buried at Hitchin on 7th April 1827. His last abode was given as Back Street, on the eastern side of the town. Mary survived him by eight years. His mother also outlived him.
