James DUNLOP was born 3may1655 and died 15dec1719 (Latter Day Saints). James was son of James Dunlop (2nd of Garnkirk) and Elisabeth Robertson/Roberton. Elizabeth, daughter of James Roberton of Bedlay, Lord Bedlay, married James 5apr1654 (stirnet). James married 1st 1689 Lilias CAMPBELL of Northwoodside (possibly 1675-1689) (Latter Day Saints). Lilias (ca. 1675-1709) was the only child of Robert Campbell of Northwoodside (d. jun1694), dean of Guild in Glasgow (stirnet); Lilias was daughter of Katherine Napier, 2nd daughter of John Napier of Kilmahew, Dunbartonshire (Old country houses of the old Glasgow gentry). Lilias Campbell was christened 26nov1674 at Glasgow, daughter of Robert Campbell and Katherine Naper (Latter Day Saints). James married 2nd Mary DOUGLAS, widow of John Hunter of Edinburgh (“Notes and queries” 1868, pub by Oxford Journals.). James was known as James Dunlop 3rd of Garnkirk (stirnet). Scottish Archives have the testament (16aug1720) and eik (10jul1723) of James Dunlop of Garnkirk, parish of Calder (reg. at Hamilton and Campsie). James and Lilias had, among others, the following child: M i Colin DUNLOP of Carmyle was born 7jan1706 and died 3aug1777 (Latter Day Saints)(“Provosts of Glasgow, 1609-1832” by James R. Anderson, pub. 1942). The Misses Dunlop of Tolcross House lent a portrait of James Dunlop, 3rd of Garnkirk (d. 1719) to the Old Glasgow Exhibition 1894; James was a lawyer, Burgess of Glasgow 1708, who married (1) 1689 Lilias, daughter of Robert Campbell of Northwoodside and Katherine Napier, and (2) Mary Douglas. They also lent a portrait of Lilias Campbell (d. 1709, aged 34), who married at the age of 14 and had 16 children (cat). A portrait of Katherine Napier or Campbell (d. 1678), 2nd daughter of John Napier of Kilmahew, who married 1673 Robert Campbell, was lent by Miss Findlay, Newton House, Millerhill (catalogue).
