- James COLVILL devises as follows: to his son John Colvill his plantation lying on Long Meadow; to my wife ANN COLVILL, that she live with my son John: to two daughters Ann Colvill & Jannet Colvill 60 pds: to his grandson James Colvill, the son of Joseph Colvill, one heifer: to his GRANDAUGHTER, ELIZABETH MCCAULLY, 2 sheep: to Ann Colvill his wife, Margaret NEWELL, his daughter and daug Ann Colvill & Jannet Colvill and Eleanor WILSON, shares in his plantation on CEDAR CREEK that he now lives on. to daug Martha Colvill, 10 pds to be paid out of Margaret NEWELL'S fifth part: to his son John Colvill, his two servants James DAVIS and Philliip ROBERTS

- In the name of God Amen, March the Seventeenth one thousant [sic] seven Hundred and seventy six. I James Colvill of Frederick County and Colony of Virginia being weak in Body but of Perfect sound mind and Memory blessed be God therefor and knowing that is is alotted for all Men to Die Do Constitute and appoint this and no other to be my last Will and Testament in manner following that is to say
- First I Will and bequeath unto my son John Colvill my Plantation situate lying on the long meadow all and singular that tract or said of land together with its appertainces to him and his Heirs forever and one horse to the Value of ten Pounds likewise my Waggon and gears and Plantation Tools Likewise one Writing Daske [sic, likely "Desk"].
- Next have and Bequeath unto Ann Colvill my beloved Wife First I Will that she live with my son John Colvill, also, I give her one horse and two Cows with a third part of my Household furniture, and if she live with John will her Deceas [sic] he is to leave the one hlf [sic, likely "half"] of her Estate the other part at his own Disposel [sic, likely Disposal]
- Next I give and Bequeth unto my two Daughters Ann Colvill and Jannet Colvill first that each one of them is to have the Value of sixty Pounds.
- Next I give and bequeth unto my Grandsone James Colvill the son of Joseph Colvill one Heifer.
- Next I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth McCaully my Granddaughter two sheep
- Next I give and bequeth unto Ann Colvill, and Jannet Colvill Remainder of all my movable Estate.
- Next I give and bequeath unto Ann Colvill my Wife and my daughter Margret Newell and Ann Colvill and Jannet Colvill and Ellenor Willson my Plantation that I now live upon lying on Ceader Creek each of them to have an equal part to them and their heirs forever.
- Next I give and bequeath unto my daughter Martha Colvill Ten Pound to be paid her out of Margret Newells fifth part.
- Next I give unto my son John two servants to wit James Davis and Philip Robertson and I do hereby Constitute and appoint Joseph Colvill, John Colvill and Samuel Colvill my Executors to this my last Will and Testament to Execute the same Disanulling all others Wills Heretofore made or Appointed by me in Witness my hand & seal

- This Last will and Testament of James Colvills dec'd. was proven Ordered to be Recorded and on the motion of Joseph Colvill, John Colvill & Samuel Colvill Executors therein mentioned who made oath thereto according to Law Certificate is granted them for Obtaining a probate thereof in due form they with security haveing entered into and acknowledged bond conditioned as the Law Directs.
