They lived near Zane's Iron Works in Frederick Co., Va. before they moved to Washington Co. , Va. in 1776.
The inscription on Samuel and Sarah's large tombstone was "To the memory of Samuel Vance with Sarah Colvill Vance his wife both from Ireland early in life. We have travelled far and wide to come into this ground. We will abide until the trumps last sound." The executors of his will were Samuel Vance and George Blackburn. The witnesses were Arthur Blackburn, John Blackburn, and John Cusick. In the court held for Washington Co., Va. on March 17, 1779, four men were ordered to appraise his estate.
