I believe he was the son of John Bridgewater and Belinda Haynes.

 In the 1870 census for Osage, Bates Co., Missouri, J. Bridgewater is 25 IL, farmer; with Semantha 22 IL and 'Anamel' 6 mos. Missouri.
 NOTE: I have not located this family in 1880.
 There is a gravestone for James B. Bridgewater, died 1896 age 53, in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence, Montgomery Co., Kansas.  It shows his service in 46th Missouri Cavalry, Co. D. Samantha and daughter Dora (1885-1897) are also buried there. {Find A Grave}
