James Breckinridge (March 7, 1763May 13, 1833) was a Virginia lawyer and politician and a member of the Breckinridge family. He served in the Virginia House of Delegates, as well as the U.S. House of Representatives. He also fought in the American Revolutionary War and served as a brigadier-general during the War of 1812.

    Breckinridge, James (1763-1833) — of Virginia. Born near Fincastle, Botetourt County, Va., March 7, 1763. Half-brother of Robert Breckinridge; cousin of John Brown, Francis Preston and James Brown; brother of John Breckinridge; great-great-granduncle of John Bayne Breckinridge. Served in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War; member of Virginia state house of delegates, 1789-1802, 1806-08, 1819-21, 1823-24; U.S. Representative from Virginia, 1809-17 (4th District 1809-11, 5th District 1811-13, 4th District 1813-15, 5th District 1815-17); general in the U.S. Army during the War of 1812. Died in Botetourt County, Va., May 13, 1833. Interment at a private or family graveyard, Botetourt County, Va.
