Jacob and Mary Frances had one child

William Skaggs was the only son of Jacob Skaggs and Frances Samples. This is known positively from testimony given by Frances in the Circuit Court of Green County, Kentucky, in April 1836, in a case contesting the estate of Jacob's brother, Moses Skaggs (who had died nearly 40 years before). Frances stated that she was the widow of Jacob Skaggs and that they had only one child, William, who was living in Green County at that time. (In fact, the Court was then convened in William's home.) Frances' testimony also established that her family had lived in Virginia before moving to Kentucky.
