Jacob served under Capt. Davis in Colonel Bunch's Regiment of East TN Volunteer Militia. The Creek Indians, who were allied with the British during the war, were being fought by Jacob's unit in GA. His military records show that when he aplied for an 80 acre land grant in Arkansas (for his war time service) that he was 69 years old at the time, and the date of application was June 1855.

Fought the Creek Indians at the battle of Horseshoe Bend along with Sam Houston and Andrew Jackson.

Jacob's War of 1812 service: 1/10/1814 drafted or volunteered Davis County or Tazewell. As a private he made $8/month. 1/3/1814 Shown as Corporal or 3rd Corporal. Made $10/month. 3/6/1814 Shown as Sergeant or 3rd Sergeant in place of Elijah Bishop. Made $11/month. 4/27/1814 Shown transferred to Capt. Houks Co. 5/2/1814 discharged in Washington DC, 345 miles from home

Pension paperwork: received 80 acres grant #175533 under legislation passed 9/28/1850, land warrant #33510. Jacob sold his 80 acre land bounty to Eli Smith of Perry, Ohio for 80 acres in Plattsburg, MO (land described as being in the east half of the northeast quarter of section 12 in township 66 of range 33, 80 acres, dated March 1857.

Ellis Owens has copy of a Power of Attorney that Jacob "signed" giving James Campbell, an attorney in Knox County, permission to act on his behalf in claiming any compensation due him, or that may be approved in the future, from the government for his service during the war.
