In this book, several John Owenses are mentioned: John, John Sr., John Jr., and John Owens of Barren Creek. December session 1801: Met at the home of John Owens. See copies. Also 12/1801 was summoned as Juror to attend next court of pleas and quarter sessions for County of Claiborne. March 1801 session: John Owens, Sr. was part of a group ordered to view and mark a road from the ford of Old Town Creek to John Bullards ferry on Clinch river. March 1802 session: John Owens, Sr. appointed overseer of the road from the ford of Old Town Creek to the ford of the creek below Yokums Station. On jury for State vs. Michael Weaver. June 1802 session: John Owens part of a group to mark a road -- states "leading to the head of John Owenses Sugar-Camp Hollow. Listed as potential juror, but not taken. Sept 1802 session: Ordered that John Owens be appointed overseer of the road from the ford of old Town Creek to Powels River, and the following to be his gang -- Jack Owens, William Owens, Benjamin Owens, Isaac Owens (among others). Ordered that John Owens, Sr., be fined 62 and 1/2 cents and put in custody of the sheriff untili paid for misbehaviour at court when setting the court. Fine remitted. December 1802 session: appointed juror (along with Geo. Sharp, David Sharp, John Graves). March 1803: Juror. June 1803: Juror. John Owens, Jr. appointed overseer of the road from the South bank of Powels river, above the mouth of old Town creek to the valley road. His gang -- among others, Wm. Sharp, Wm and Mathew Owens. Sept 1803 juror (John Owens - Barren creek), along with Coonrod, Aaron, and Jacob Sharp. December 1804 session: John Owens -- Barren creek to serve as juror.
