Jacob Bumgardner, of Massac Co. IL & Lawrence Co., OH
Facts and Events
Disambiguation
Not to be confused with another Jacob Bumgardner that married (1) Rebecca Patterson 1812 in Augusta County, VA and (2) Margaret "Peggy" Moyer 1818 in Wythe County, VA. Some internet trees and also a Find-A-Grave memorial have combined them both into a single person without looking at the records that clearly show them as separate persons. Also, this Jacob Bumgardner would have only been abt. 16 years old in 1812, so he certainly would NOT have been able to marry Rebecca Patterson in 1812. The Find-A-Grave contributor has been messaged to correct the Find-A-Grave page, but so far has refused to make the corrections.
About Jacob Bumgardner
This Jacob Bumgardner was married well prior to 1820 based upon the 1820 U.S. Census when he was living in Lawrence County, Ohio with a wife and a son and daughter both under age 10. Some researchers have placed his marriage with Edith Davisson in 1828, but it appears it was likely closer to 1815 based upon the birth of their son, Rufus Bumgardner, on 31 July 1816, whose gravestone reads: Son of J. and Edith Bumgarner. Edith was clearly old enough to marry Jacob Bumgardner, but no marriage records have been yet found. Additional research is needed.
