Enlisted on 13 December 1861; mustered in on 3 December 1861, Battery F, 1st Ohio Volunteer Light Artillery Regiment as a Private; mustered out and transferred on 1 March 1864; mustered in on 1 March 1864, Battery M, 1st Ohio Light Artillery Regiment; mustered out on 13 December 1864 64 at Camp Dennison, Ohio.
Amaziah married Rosabell Davisson on 26 February 1866 by Rev. F. Stanley in Lawrence County, Ohio. They had one child, Jesse Daniel Bumgarner (1867-1936). Rosabelle died in 1868 at age 20.
Amazeah married Jane Dugger on 1 January 1879 in Massac County, Illinois and died on an unknown date after her daughter, Birdie was born in July 1886. Their known children were Edith Bumgarner (Peeler) (b.1879), Maud Bumgarner (Carter) (b.1881) and Birdie Bumgarner (Schaffer)(Munn) (b.1886). [The Marriage Record for Birdie Schaffer revealed she was 58 years old on July 22, 1944. She married Howard Amos Munn in September 1944 in Summit County, Ohio.]
The record for the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers revealed Amaziah Bumgarner (63) was admitted on 26 August 1902. He was 5' 8" tall, had grey eyes and grey hair. Amaziah resided in Belknap County, Illinois. His nearest relative was his daughter, Mrs. Edith Peeler of Danville County, Illinois. Amaziah died in the hospital on 9 August 1913 in Danville County, Illinois.
