2010 obituary-Jack E. Abernathy, Sr, 83, died Tuesday, June 29, 2010 following a period of declining health. He was born in Burke County on September 29, 1926 and was a son of the late Adolphus A. and Nettie Mae Simpson Abernathy. Jack was a veteran of World War II where he served with the U. S. Navy Seabees. Surviving are his children, Barbra Abernathy Taylor and husband, Bo, of Glen Alpine, Gary A. Abernathy and wife, Christi, of Arden, and Eddie Abernathy of Raleigh. Also surviving are grandchildren, Bo Taylor, Jr. and wife, Tammy, Brent Taylor and wife, Meredith, Kirt Abernathy, Gretchen Whisnant and husband, Chuck, and Corey, Taylor, and Marissa Stockstad; and great-grandchildren, Bo III, Bryan, Braeyon, Abby, and Ella Taylor, Cassie Johnson, and Ava Whisnant. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Lane Abernathy. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Calvin Heights Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to DAV Chapter 43, C/O Robert Mill, PO Box 572, Morganton, NC 28655, or to Calvin Heights Baptist Church, Bridge 42, 107 Calvin Heights St, Morganton, NC 28655.
