While working on the construction of Fontana Dam in Tennessee, he suffered a heart attack and died instantly. He is buried in Glen Alpine, Burke, NC. Mr. Abernathy was a son of G.W. & Elizabeth Tucker Abernathy. On Dec. 25, 1904, he married Nettie Mae Simpson. Surviving were his wife and nine children.
