Jabez Lynde married Margaret Tweedie and they had five children according to the 1861 census. In 1864 they both died, leaving the children orphans. The children spent the rest of their childhood with their two surviving grandparents, Sylvester Bernard Lynde and Jane Tweedie, who lived on adjacent farms near the town of Whitby, Ontario.
