Some researchers believe that the Isabella Kerr that married William Gilbreath Falls was the daughter of John Kerr and Lucy Pickens, but based upon other information (some circumstantial)including some family "tradition" and information passed down to descendants, in addition to the naming pattern of Isabella and William's children, it is considered by several researchers more likely that Isabella was the daughter of William Kerr and Rosanna Jane Smith, rather than John Kerr and Lucy Pickens. William Gilbreath Falls and Isabella Kerr named their first two children "William" and "Rosanna", most likely after William Kerr and Rosanna Jane Smith, and NONE of their five daughters were named Lucy, which (during those days) would have been somewhat unusual, had she been the daughter of John Kerr and Lucy Pickens. In addition, other sources have indicated that Isabella Kerr, daughter of John Kerr and Lucy Pickens married Samuel Hinds, which further strenghtens the case for this Isabel marrying William Gilbreath Falls.

Obviously, if a will from either John Kerr or his brother William Kerr were to be found, naming a daughter "Isabella Falls", this would provide compelling proof, which would solve the dilemma of which set of parents to place Isabella. But in the absence of this proof, several researchers have decided to most likely place her as a daughter of William Kerr and Rosanna Jane Smith.

There are several internet sites claiming that Isabella is the daughter of John and Lucy Kerr, and several claiming she is the daughter of William Kerr and Rosanna Jane Smith, fueling the speculation on her parentage.
