According to Jo-Ann E. Palmer of the Sutton County Historical Society, two older residents of that County (88 and 94 years old in 1994) said "The Rutledge Cafe had good food, great coffee, and was real clean".
He was married to Birdie Muckelroy (daughter of Patrick Muckelroy and Willie Mae Martin) in 1903 in Sherwood, Irion County, Texas. Birdie Muckelroy was born on 11 Feb 1883 in Lavaca County, Texas. She appeared on the census on 10 Apr 1930 in Sonora, Sutton County, Texas.(812) She died on 26 Oct 1970 in San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas. (813) She was buried in Sonora Cemetery, Sonora, Texas.
