Conflicting information on this Hugh McCain, based upon the following Genforum.com post:

Family of Hugh McCain (b.1729) & 2nd wife Jane Davis Posted by: Elinore Olsen (ID *****5470) Date: January 28, 2005 at 09:55:12

Do you all think it could be possible that Hugh McCain (Sr.?), b. 1729, d.1821 NC, and 2nd wife Jane Pickens Davis had a son named James? I know this Hugh had a son James by his 1st wife Eleanor Nutt, and it would certainly be unusual to name a son of your 2nd wife with the same name you gave a son of your 1st wife. Boy, that would have to be some significant ancestral name! Still, a lot of descendants of James McCain (b abt. NC 1779, d abt. 1844-1850) seem to have stories connected with this Hugh McCain of the Waxhaw area of NC/SC. Further, descendants believe that their James McCain (b.c1779) was born in the Waxhaw area of NC/SC, and to my knowledge the only McCain living in that area at that time was Hugh McCain, right?

Maybe you've seen the Olive Branch Cemetery, Clay Co. AL, list of residents. They list the above James McCain as James Edward McCain with DOB as 1785 DOD 1845, and in parentheses it shows the parents to be "(Hugh McCain Jr. and Jane Davis?)" I don't know where the compiler of that list got that information, but it's just one more thing that has me wondering.

Many of you no doubt know about the McCain DNA project. Is it true that the results for the above mentioned James McCain are similar to the Hugh McCain Sr. we’re talking about? If so, I would consider that to be important, even striking.

I hope somebody out there can shed some light on this for me. Elinore
