Sefvices will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Wheelan Funeral Home with burial in Rock Island, Memorial Park. Visitation begins at 2 p.m. Sunday. A native of Rural Twp., Mr. Lawson married Maude Burch Nov. 17, 1923, in Ainsworth, Iowa. He was a veteran of World War I. Formerly Mr. Lawson owned and operated the Lawson Tax Service, previously was an experimental engineer with Deere and Co., and had been with the Internal Revenue Service. Lawson Succumbs at 73; Rites Monday Hugh J. Lawson, 73, of 2206 30th St., Rock Island, died at 5:55 this morning in St. Anthony’s Hospital after a four-month illness. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Whelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. The Rev. E.E. Gould, pastor of St. Pius Roman Catholic Church, Rock Island, will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Lawson was born Dec. 18, 1898, in Rural Township, a son of Joseph D. and Blanche Moore Lawson. He attended Rock Island public schools and was graduated from Rock Island High School in 1918. He attended the University of Iowa from 1921 to 1923. He married Maude Burch Nov. 17, 1923, in Ainsworth, Iowa. He formerly was employed by Deere and Co. and with the Internal Revenue Service. In 1938 he formed his own business, Lawson Tax Service, and opened an office at 1800 3rd Ave., Rock Island. He retired May 1, 1970. Mr. Lawson served with the Army Cavalry in World War I. He was a member of the Rock Island Rotary Club; American Legion Post No. 200; Rock Island Lodge No. 658 AF & AM; Rock Island Chapter No. 18, Royal Arch Masons; Rock Island Council No. 20, Royal and Select Masters of Illinois; Scottish Rite Bodies of Moline, and Tabala Temple of Rockford. Surviving are the widow; a son, Robert H., Rock Island, and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister and a daughter.”
FIRST: It is my will and I hereby direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses shall be fully paid. SECOND: I hereby give, devise and bequeath all of my property of whatsoever kind, whether it be real, personal or mixed, and weresoever situated to my beloved wife, Maude A. Lawson, of said City of Rock Island, County of Rock Island, and State of Illinois, except that in the event my wife pre-deceases me, all of my property of whatsoever kind, whether it be real, personal or mixed, and wheresoever situated, to my beloved son, Robert Hugh Lawson, of said City of Rock Island, County of Rock Island, and State of Illinois. THIRD: I hereby nominate and appoint my said wife, Maude A. Lawson, sole executor of this my last will and testament and direct that she shall not be required to give bond as such executor, the giving of a bond being herein expressly waived. IN WITNESS THEREOF I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 8th day of January, 1963.
