The Creekmore family came from North Carolina in 1795. They settled on Jellico Creek where “my grandfather” Horatio Gates Creekmore was born. In 1821 he married Lurany J. Meadors, who was born 12 June 1803. The had 10 children:
Delilah (Harmonson); Calvin; Bersheba; Jane (Ryan); Polly; Davis; Thomas; Franklin; Horatio (drown in Cumberland River in 1869); and Kesiah. Horatio was a shrewd traer in land, cattle and horses and was also a slave owner. After the war, he moved to Rockholds, where he resided until his death in 1876. Lurany, a few years later, was thrown from a horse and sustained injuries from which she never recovered. They are both buried in the Ryan’s Graveyard on Young’s Creek. From Mr. J. J.
