Horace B. Sawyer enlisted in the 18 U.S. Infantry in Capt. Thompson's Company G. He was discharged at Lookout Mountain, Tennessee. He was 5' 9 1/2" with light complexion, brown hair and brown eyes. His left arm was injured in the Battle of Chickamaugua, Georgia on 19 September 1965.

"that the said Horace B Sawyer and Minnie E Sawyer jointly, were seized of the whole of the NE quarter og NW quarter of Section Seven (7), in Township Thirthy-four (34), of Rang Three (3) East of the 6th PM excepting the strip off west side thereof 180 feet wide, which strip is platted and recorded as a part of Mitchell's Addition to East Geuda Springs; that upon the death od said Minnie E Sawyer afoesaid, the one-half of said real estate was cast upon Horace B. Sawyer and the other one-half upon the children, being the children of Horace B Sawyer and Minnie E Sawyer, the heirs of the one being the heirs of the other; that said children are as follows: - Clara A Endicott, Lydia Emrick, Grace Parkison, and Dencie Holter, daughters, and Reuben H Sawyer, Wesley b Sawyer, Ira L Sawyer and Sherman S Sawyer, sons. That under the authority of this court the undivided three-fourths owned by the said Horace B Sawyer was sold unto the purchaser James L Tuttle; that the other undivided one-fourth interest was cast upon the heirs of Minnie E Sawyer, share and share alike, that is to say, an undivided one-thirty-second interest to each."; 17 Mar 1914 Final Account.

- ↑ 17.0 17.1 while several records indicate Horace and his older brother Emory were born in Monroe County, Michigan, Ira lived in Hillsdale in 1840 census. Not sure when Ira and family moved back to Monroe County.
