Enlisted as a 1st Lieutenant on 21 August 1862. Commissioned in Company G, 83rd Infantry Regiment Illinois on 21 Aug 1862. Resigned - Discharged disability Company G, 83rd Infantry Regiment Illinois on 11 Nov 1863. OBITUARY: A telegram reached Maquon of his death of paralysis which occured at his home in Los Angelos, California on the 8th February. There survive him, the widow, three brother, John of Maquon, Walter of Kansas, and Warren. A sister, the widow of Thad C. Olmstead of Nebraska. The deceased was born in the state New York and came to Maquon with parents in 18-- where he resided until about 26 years ago when removed to Omaha, Nebraska and from there to California. Horace Jones was a broad, liberal-minded, whole-hearted gentleman and no one was more popular in Maquon and more dearly respected. Wednesday, February 17, 1897.
