Death of Hiram Lamb. Long Time Resident of Jackson Township Passes to His Reward.
After a steadily declining illness, which resulted from a stroke of paralysis, which he sustained last August, Hiram Lamb, son of John W. and Patsy Lamb, died at his home northeast of Owensburg, last Friday morning at 1:30 o’clock. He was the second son and was born in Guilford (now Greensborough) County, North Carolina, April 14, 1834, and came with his parents shortly after to Greene County, were he spent the remainder of his life.
He was seventy-eight years and eleven months. He was married August 3, 1855 to Miss Nancy Hatfield, who survives him. Her parents were Washington and Elizabeth Hatfield, both deceased. To this union were born three daughters, Mrs. Abbie Holmes, of Washington Township, Mrs. Linnie Strosnider, of Jackson Township, and Mrs. Patsy Jackson, the latter preceding her parents to the home eternal.
Mr. Lamb was a Christian and he confessed his faith in his Savior early in life. He was a loyal friend, a faithful and considerate companion and his life was spent in ministering to the aid and happiness of others. He was a great lover of children and he was a friend and confident of almost every child he ever knew. His disposition was bright and hopeful and his friends were legion in his declining days and it was surely an appreciated reward for a life of true friendship and sacrifice spent for those dependent upon him. If there was ever a good man, he surely was one.
His oldest brother, Calvin G. Lamb, and his youngest sister, Mrs. Matilda Hatfield, are the only members of that pioneer family left and they, together with the wife and two daughters have the sympathy of a large circle of relatives in their bereavement.
The funeral was conducted at the family home last Saturday at 2 p. m. by Elder Quincy Short, of Springville. Interment in the Dishman Cemetery.
