Mr. Housel passed away on Thursday afternoon after an illness of only six days due to pneumonia. Mrs. Housel is also very sick, suffering from flu and complications, and has been in a very serious condition. Mr. Housel was eighty-one years of age, was born in Trumbull County, Ohio, and was the son of Absalom and Rhoda (Allen) Housel. He came to the Ossian community when a child and was reared to manhood on a farm west of Ossian. He was married to Miss Delilah Slippey, and is survived by that lady and five children, the children being Mrs. Maude Moody, who resides in the west; Mrs. Lillian Grimm, Arthur, Jasper, and Walter Housel, all of near Auburn. A daughter, Rhoda is deceased. The Housel family resided in Ossian, prior to moving to Auburn a long time ago. Bluffton Evening News Mar 12, 1926 page 3 col. 5 TEN AUBURN VETERANS ENJOY A CHICKEN DINNER Entertained by James May in Honor of his Birthday and Those of W. H. McIntosh and Hiram Mason en veterans of the Civil War renewed their comradeship Tuesday at the home of James May and Mrs. Hanry Feller, his daughter, on West Seventeenth street when a chicken dinner served in the old fashioned way, was given in celebration of the birthdays of three members of DeLong Post, G. A. R. The three old soldiers whose birthdays were celebrated were Mr. May who is 78, W. H. McIntosh, 86, and Hiram Housel, 78 years of age. The combined ages of the three is 242 years. Mr. May and Mr. Mason both the same age to the day. After the dinner was served and eaten, the comrades adjourned to the parlor of the May home where each one present gave a talk reminiscent of former days and their experiences while in the Union army. Rev. Ernsberger of McClure, Oh, one of the guests present sang some old fashioned songs greatly to the delight of the veterans. The ten comrades present were: Moses Kinsey, James Draggoo, James Pearce, Columbus C. Welsh, Cyrus Olinger, Joseph Prosser, James Provines, W. H. McIntosh, Hiram Housel, and James May.
