Facts and Events
At 12 years old, October 19, 1814, was legally adopted through act of Vermont Legislature by Amzi Doolittle and his (birth) mother's sister, Esther (Barber) Doolittle. 1830 US Census might be in Vernon, Windham Co., VT 1840 US Census: Winchester, Cheshire Co., NH 1850 US Census, Winchester, Cheshire Co., NH (in same house with adopted parents and birth mother): Hiram Doolittle, 50, farmer, b. Iowa From examination of Winchester maps prior to 1892, it appears that Amzi Doolittle (Jr.) purchased a house along what is now Route 119, just west of the Evergreen cemetery about 3 houses. It then appears that his (adopted) son Hiram lived in this house until his death. An 1892 map indicates that Mrs. H.[iram] Doolittle [Lucy Hazelton] is living there. (She dies in 1892.) |
