    Excerpt: "Hiram Christian also left his practice when competition for patients became too intense. Rather than relocate to a more isolated area, he switched careers and set himself up as an attorney in Welch. Finding the legal profession too crowded in the McDowell County seat, he eventually moved to War, where he was the only lawyer and became the community's justice of the peace."
