On the 1860 census, age 10, with father and step-mother, Falls Twp., Hocking Co. Oh.[p 113 fam #423/425] She married J . R. MASON about 1875 in Oh. He was born 12 May 1849 in Pa. In the estate of Jacob Rittgers (1.2) in 1880, we find listed "Esther Mason... surviving heir of the deceased daughter... " Isabella Illes.[Abst 62638] On the 1880 census, Valley Twp., Polk Co., Ia., we find next door to Christina Rittgers, "Annie E." Mason, 29, b. Oh., as were her parents. With her is John L., 4, son, b. Oh., but father b. Pa., mother b. Oh.[ED 172, p 34, fam #133/136] In Rittgers Cemetery Records, we find the name of "J.R. Mason, 8 Jan 1878, age 28 yrs, 7 mo., 27 days. There is a stone in the Rittgers Cemetery, Johnston, Polk Co., Ia., with no date on it that gives the name Esther Iles Mason.
