Herman Julius Thiede was born in Zehldorf,Arnswalde, Prussia on December 2, 1845. He came to Nord-Amerika in 1862. Later on, he arrived in Minnesota in Carver County. He spent two years in Chaska, Minnesota before he arrived in Shakopee around 1865. He finalized his declaration in Shakopee of Scott County on December 20, 1884. He moved to Shakopee, Scott County, Minnesota in1865 and married a widow, Elizabeth Reinisch on October 23, 1871. She was the widow of Leopold Kopp who died February 28, 1871. He worked as a blacksmith and Wagon Factory owner. He was injured in an accident in 1907 and never fully recovered from the injuries that he received from a run a way horse and wagon. He retired a year later and spent the rest of his life at his home. There were five children born to Herman and Elizabeth. Lena, Mary, William Joseph, Edward Ferdinand, and Minnie Catherine. Elizabath had five children by Leopold Kopp, Charles, Anna, Elizabeth, John and Leopold Jr. Also a sister survive him, a Mrs. William Koerner of St. Paul, Minnesota. Herman passed away on April 15, 1922 and was buried in the Catholic cemetery at Shakopee. Elizabeth out lived him by many years, dying December 15, 1939 16 days short of her 100 birthday. She had been born December 31, 1839 in Budweis, Bohemia. His funeral took place at St. Mark's Catholic Church and burial was in the upper Catholic cemetery. Those from a distance that attended the funeral were, William Thiede of Faribault, Mrs Frank Waterfield, Mr and Mrs. S.G. Dyer and family of Minneapolis, John Thiede of Kimball, Minnesota, Robert Thiede of Annadale, Minnesota, Mr and Mrs. M.J. Carr, Mrs. Thomas Leddy, Harry Schneider, Miss Pauline Schneider, Mrs. Frank Scheider and son Paul of St. Paul, Mrs. L. Kopp, Burton Kopp, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Klietz of North St. Paul. References
