My great grandfather Friederch Wilhelm Thiede was born March 8, 1836 in Helpe, Arnswalde, Prussia. He had one brother Herman Julius Thiede. Fred as we knew him, was married December 27, 1864 in Schutlzendorf. Brandenberg, West Prussia to Henriette Kersten. Two children were born there, Herman Julius Thiede born circa 1865 and August Wilhelm Robert Julius Thiede December 15, 1866. They emigrated to the United States in 1869 with Henriette Kersten's parents Johan Frederich and Louise Kersten, her two brothers Gotlieb Wilhelm Kersten and Wilhelm Kersten, on the ship Christel arriving May 14, 1869. My grandfather Gotlieb Wilhelm Johannes Thiede was born on the ship Christel at sea March 25, 1869. Herman Julius Thiede born circa 1865 died somewhere between New York and Carver, Minnesota, where my family first settled, a little girl named Anna M.F. Thiede was born at Carver of Carver County, Minnesota on April 27, 1872, she died in October of 1876. Shortly after her death, my greatgrandparents and family moved to Main Prairie Township of Stearns County, near the present day city of Kimball. Another child was born there, on December 18, 1877 named Matilda Louise Thiede.
My greatgrandfather Friederich died at the age of 73 on October 20, 1897. He is buried in Fairhaven Cemetery at Farihaven, Minnesota
