GRAHAM — Mr. Herbert A. Holmes, 70, of 267 Judge Sharpe Road, died at 6:05 a.m. Monday, June 21, 1999, at Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro after a long illness. A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Mrs.. Roxie G. Holmes, and the son of Mr. George W. Holmes Jr.. and Mrs.. Fannie Thompson Holmes, both deceased. He was retired from Collins & Aikman, and a World War II Marine veteran. Survivors include one son, Mr. Herbert A. Holmes Jr.. of Graham; one sister, Mrs.. Doris H. Webb of Beckley, W. Va.; two brothers, Mr. George Holmes III of Charlottesville, Va. And Mr. William Holmes of Chico, Calif.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cedar Cliff United Methodist Church cemetery by the Rev. Rick Moser, pastor of Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church. The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home of the son, 3521 Mt. Hermon-Rock Creek Road, Graham.
