Mrs.. Doris H. Webb BECKLEY, W.Va. — Mrs.. Doris Wilma Holmes Webb, 78, of the Dry Hill Community, died Wednesday, July 28, 1999, at a Beckley hospital after a long illness. Born Jan. 7, 1921, in Graham, she was the wife of Mr. Virgil Webb who died in 1986, and the daughter of Mr. George Holmes and Mrs.. Fannie Thompson Holmes, both deceased. She spent her childhood in Graham and moved to the Sundial area in 1945, settling in Naoma, W.Va., in 1949, where she lived for 33 years before moving to the Beckey area. She was a graduate of High Point College and received a bachelor’s degree in teaching. She also did post graduate work at Marshall University and West Virginia University. She was a teacher at Marsh Fork High School, teaching English and psychology for 43 years, retiring in 1978. She was a member of Rebekah Chapel at Rock Creek and also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Whitesville Chapel. Survivors include a son, Mr. George Webb of Beckley; three brothers, Mr. George W. Holmes III of Charlottesville, Va., Mr. William Holmes of Chico, Calif., and Mr. Herbert A. Holmes Jr.. of Graham. The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at Melton Mortuary Chapel by the Rev. Samuel Vance and the Rev. J.D. Pettry. Burial will be in the Miller Cemetery, Rock Creek. |
