Henry P. enlisted 24 Feb 1861 as a private in Noxubee Rifles, which became Company F, 11th MS Infantry at Lynchburg, VA on 13 May 1861. Engagements inlcude 1st Manassas, Seven Pines, Malvern Hill. He went on leave 3 Mar 1863 and was marked as a deserter because he joined his brothers in Turner's Light Artillery on 1 Aug 1863. On 20 Aug 1864 he was exchanged (P.O.W.) for T. M. Pierce by Special Field Order #83 of HQ Army Tenn. ( Gen. Hood) and was present with Noxubee Cavalry, Co. G, 1st Miss Cav on 1 Sept 1864.

Census data puts family in Louisiana in 1870 and 1872. Contracts in 1874 identify H.P. and Ella as residents of Noxubee County. In Humphreys County by 1880.
