Henry Champion (Henry1), born ____ 1654, in Saybrook, Conn.; died 'the middle of July 1704,' in Lyme, Conn.; married in Lyme, 1 April 1684, Susanna DeWolf, daughter of Balthazar and Alice DeWolf, of Lyme, who was married, second, to John Huntley, Senior, of Lyme … Henry Champion resided in his house on Meeting House Hill in Lyme. He acquired several tracts of land by grant from the town and also received land from his father. … In the old burying-ground in Lyme is a grave stone with the following inscription: Henry Champion 2d / died in July in the / year 1704 / in the 49th year / of his age. The inventory of his estate amounted to £230—8s—10e more than one half of which came from real estate. 'Appraisers, William Ely, Mathew Griswold, Townsmen, dated: Lyme, 7-12—1704-5.' At a Probate Court held at New London, Aug. 8, 1706, administration is granted Mrs. Susanna Champion. 'The names and ages of ye children of Henry Champion, deceased,' being also stated. The widow to have one third of the real property during her life, and one half of the movable property forever; to the eldest son a double portion; to the others equal shares."
