Facts and Events
Henry Bonser was baptised on 12th January 1727 at Granby in Nottinghamshire, son of Elizabeth Bonser, formerly Harrison, and her husband Henry Bonser. In 1740, when he was thirteen years old, his father died. The following year his mother married again. Her second husband was a clergyman named John Breton, who had been appointed as curate at Granby in 1723. They married at Kilvington, about six miles north-east of Granby, but returned to Granby after their marriage. On 1st August 1758, aged 30, he married Hannah Marshall at Hawksworth, about six miles north of Granby. He was described as a weaver at the time of their marriage. They went on to have four children baptised at Hawksworth between 1759 and 1768. The family was still living at Hawksworth in 1777, when Henry's mother wrote her will. She left Henry a quarter of her residual estate. In the same year, Henry's younger brother William died, and Henry was appointed joint guardian of William's children. Henry's mother died in 1778. Some time between 1777 and 1787 Henry and Hannah moved about three miles west to the village of Car Colston. Hannah died in 1787, aged 52. Henry survived her by seven years. He died at the age of 67 and was buried at Car Colston on 21st February 1794. References
