George Bonser was baptised on 18th December 1724 at Granby in Nottinghamshire, son of Elizabeth Bonser, formerly Harrison, and her husband Henry Bonser. George's father died in 1740, when George was fifteen years old. The following year, George's mother married John Breton, the curate of Granby.

On 27th April 1747, aged 22, George married Mary Dawson at Colston Bassett, about five miles south-west of Granby. They went on to have eleven children together between 1748 and 1773. The first four children were baptised at Colston Bassett. Some time between 1753 and 1755 the family moved about thirteen miles north-east of Colston Bassett to Allington in Lincolnshire, where the other seven children were baptised. One of their sons died in 1757, aged two, whilst one of their daughters died in 1770, aged eighteen.

George died at the age of 49, being buried at West Allington on 28th January 1774. His mother survived him. Her will, written in 1777, made bequests to George's widow and children. It has yet to be established what became of George's wife Mary after 1777.
