Mary Dawson's origins have yet to be established. Her first confirmed sighting is on 27th April 1747, when she married George Bonser at Colston Bassett in Nottinghamshire.

Mary and George went on to have eleven children together between 1748 and 1773. The first four children were baptised at Colston Bassett. Some time between 1753 and 1755 the family moved about thirteen miles north-east of Colston Bassett to Allington in Lincolnshire, where the other seven children were baptised. One of their sons died in 1757, aged two, whilst one of their daughters died in 1770, aged eighteen.

George died in 1774, aged 49. It has yet to be established what became of Mary, although she was still living in Allington in 1777 when she was named in George's mother's will, which also made bequests to Mary's children.
