On 7 August 1840 the Volksraad in Pietermaritzburg allocated a farm to Dorothea and her second husband Hendrik Schoeman. The farm belonged to her son Stephanus Johannes who was murdered with Piet Retief and the other burghers by the Zulu Chief Dingaan on 6 February 1838.
