Facts and Events
Cause of death: Heart failure Helen was born in Beloit, Wisconsin but lived on three farms in her youth, the last near Milton, Rock County, Wisconsin. She married Alban who lived on an adjacent farm at a young age. She moved with Alban to the Minneapolis area where she worked for many years as a sales clerk at Dayton's Department Store in downtown Minneapolis. Alban died in 1941 while on active duty with the Army. In 1943 she moved back to Janesville so she could be close to her brothers and sisters. Her son Donald had just entered the Navy. Her two youngest daughters, Dorothy and Jeannine moved with her. Dorothy was already married, but her husband Neal was away in the service as well. Dorothy had her first child in Janesville. Helen and family returned to Minneapolis in 1946 when Donald got out of the Navy. In 1952, she married Gustav Minks and moved to his farm near Princeton/Milaca, Minnesota. In the 1960's they retired from the farm to Milaca. Gustav changed a lot as he aged and in 1979 Helen moved back to the Minneapolis area. She divorced Gustavin order to reacquire Alban's veterens pension. She lived for awhile with her daughter Jeannine and then resided in a Golden Valley senior's apartment from 1982 until moving to North Ridge Care Center in New Hope in 1992.
