The names were recorded as Joseph Swobody & Sophia Rosendall. Sophia's parents' names were recorded as Ernest & Sophia Rosenall. These were Sophia's aunt and uncle and were probably her guardians. Ernest was a brother of her father, Friedrich. Record contains date & place, occupation, residence & birthplace of husband, parents' names; ceremony by Justice of the Peace, Henry Coleman.

  19. This was what his grandaughter, Christine Swoboda Schemenauer, remembered from when she was a child. He smoked a long-stemmed pipe, and she said he lived in a one-room little house and ate with them. Christine and her family lived with her grandparents for about a year when she was about eight years old, and she remembered him walking around the farm and that he was very old.
  20. Birth date of 9 Aug 1824 could be a Baptism date (in letter from pastor of church in Wintzingerode, Germany) because his death record gives birth date as 5 Aug 1824.
  21. The land entry [Washington County Courthouse] states: Christoph Rosenthal to Ernest Rosenthal 1852 $50. signed by Christoph Rosenthal - Juliane Rosenthal." Later Ernst sold the land to M. Lohr, and Anna Sophia is named with Ernst when they sold (no date, but probably about 1860 when they migrated to Chippewa County).
