  27. Plat maps (both dated 1859) of Addison and Barton townships show Friedrich Rosenthal and his brothers owning parcels of land in the SE Quarter of Section 1 of Addison Township and also across the road in Section 6 of Barton Township. The SE Quarter of Section 1 in Addison was originally owned by their father, Christoph, as shown on a Land Sales Map. These parcels were just south of the current location of St. Peters Church. Christoph purchased the land in 1847. None of them had homestead land in Washington County because the Homestead Act of 1862 offering free land was enacted after they were already land owners.
  28. at the "Port of Buffalo" in 1847 according to the Delaration of Intent in his Naturalization Record. His obituary also has 1847 for the immigration, and Friedrich's family Bible has July 1847. Since Buffalo was not an official port of entry, they may have come by way of Canada, but Canadian immigration records are not available before 1850. The only Passenger List found was for Christ Rosenthal, 29, a miller, who arrived on 8 Nov 1847 at the Port of New York on the FRANCISCO from Bremen, Germany. No wife was listed. [This may not have been one of "our" Rosenthals].
  29. This is probably not Christoph Friedrich Rosenthal, who was called Friedrich rather than Christ. He was born in 1825; so his age should have been 22 (almost) rather than 29. His profession and year of arrival are right, but the month is questionable. He was the only Rosenthal on the ship, but Conrad Bauer & family, listed after him, could be relatives on Friedrich's mother's side:
Christ Rosenthal, miller, born abt 1818, 29, male, listed on line 27
Arrival Date: 8 Nov 1847; Port of Departure: Bremen, Germany; Ship Name: Franzisca [or Francis]; Port of Arrival: New York, New York; Microfilm Serial: M237; Microfilm Roll: M237_70; List Number: 881
    Following him on the list:
Joh Kramer, shoemaker, born abt 1823, age 24, male, line 28.
Conrad Bauer, farmer, born abt 1811, age 36, male, line 29.
Cathr Bauer, born abt 1818, age 29, female, line 30
Magd Bauer, born abt 1843, age 4, female, line 31.
Johan Bauer, born abt 1838, age 9, male, line 32.
