Facts and Events
He farmed at Clifton, Illinois, Marguerite attended Illinois State Normal University. She was a teacher in several area county schools for 15 years (including Tatro and Vanderpoorten schools) before their marriage. She drove a horse and buggy to school and carried a small revolver for her safety. Her mother-in-law frowned upon the marriage because she was Roman Catholic. Harry, raised in the Lutheran Church at Chebanse, never attended church again, but faithfully drove Marguerite to her church in either Ashkum or Clifton every Sunday. Their farm, purchased in 1944, was located in Section 4, Chebanse Township, Iroquois County, one-half mile west of Clifton. The property was sold in 1979 to Lindgren Brothers and buildings were leveled (barn cupola was reinstalled on Vernon Meier's barn). Harry and Marguerite are burried in the Mulloy family plot, Catholic Cemetery, Ashkum, Illinois. |
